Export Control Organisation BIS

Who are we?

The Export Control Organisation (ECO), part of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), is the UK's regulatory export licensing authority for 'strategic' controlled goods. ECO specifically licences military and dual-use items, software and technology (ie products with both civilian and military capabilities such as lasers, valves, aeronautics equipment). To find out more about whether you are required to apply for a licence from the ECO, please go to our website at http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/exportcontrol

 How we can help?

The ECO's Business Awareness Unit's remit is to help demystify and increase your understanding of your export control responsibilities so that you can comply confidently with the law.

We run seminars and workshops ranging from a Beginners Workshop to more advanced courses covering different aspects of export control, such as how to classify your items and determine if you need an export licence (Control List Classification courses).

Our courses are chargeable at a highly competitive rate and are designed for all businesses who need to apply for an export licence from the ECO (and in particular new businesses or companies new to exporting).

We also offer bespoke training on request (for a minimum of 10 delegates per company).

What can I expect from an ECO training course?

  • Learn first hand from expert government officials experienced in UK export controls
  • Share ideas, best practice and experience with other export control practitioners across industry
  • Be able to ask questions
  • Be given reference material to take away with you
  • Receive a certificate of attendance
